Health Careers Exploration Summer Camp

Medical Academy - Unstoppable

Camp Dates: June 5-9, 2011
Location: Plainview, TX
Application Deadline: May 2, 2011

Each AHEC center offers a health careers summer camp for high school students in their region. The camp is geared toward students who think that they are interested in a health career. At the camp, students have an opportunity to learn more about different health career choices, touring hospitals, area college campuses that offer health careers training programs, and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Students also have the chance to job shadow with Practice Exam health professionals in the clinic and hospital setting to learn more about the day-to-day work of nurses, doctors, pharmacists, physical therapists and other health care professionals.

The camp lasts 3-4 days, and students stay in the dormitory of the college hosting the camp, under the supervision of camp counselors. The camps hosted by Panhandle AHEC are held on the West Texas A&M University campus in Canyon, Texas.

The Panhandle AHEC will offer three advanced camps in Summer 2011. These camps are available for students who have previously participated in an AHEC basic camp. For more information about advanced camps, call 806.651.3480.

Students from the Panhandle who are interested in participating in a Basic Camp can attend the "Medical Academy: Unstoppable" hosted by AHEC of the Plains at Wayland Baptist University June 5-9, 2011.
